About Alpha Chi Omega: History & Legacy
Founded on October 15, 1885 at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, Alpha Chi Omega was created by seven visionary women determined to build something bold, brilliant, and lasting. Spoiler: they did.
Our founders—Anna Allen, Olive Burnett, Bertha Deniston, Amy DuBois, Nellie Gamble, Bessie Grooms, and Estelle Leonard—chose a name that spans the full Greek alphabet: Alpha to Omega, with a little “Kai” (meaning and) in the middle. Because this sisterhood was always meant to be both beginning and end game.
