About Alpha Epsilon Phi
Founded on October 24, 1909, at Barnard College in New York City, Alpha Epsilon Phi was created by seven Jewish women who sought a sisterhood that reflected their values, intellect, and cultural identity. With a mission rooted in personal growth, community, and lifelong friendship, AEPhi continues to empower women across the country—and around the world.
Fun fact: the original chapter was so successful, they started expanding within just a year. That’s how you know you’re doing something right.
Symbols, Colors & Motto
-
Colors: Green and White – Green represents growth and renewal; white stands for sincerity. Together? It's giving timeless with a purpose.
-
Flower: Lily of the Valley – Elegant, fragrant, and lowkey symbolic of happiness and humility.
-
Mascot: Giraffe – The only animal that sees the big picture and leads with its heart (seriously—biggest heart of any land mammal).
-
Motto: “Many Hearts, One Purpose.” A little poetic. A lot powerful.
Philanthropy with Purpose
Alpha Epsilon Phi supports Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and Sharsheret, an organization supporting Jewish women and families facing breast and ovarian cancer. Through campus events, fundraising, and service, AEPhi women uplift lives, support research, and make a tangible impact in communities that need it most.
Service here isn’t a checkbox—it’s a commitment.
Notable AEPhi Alumnae (No Big Deal... Except Yes, Big Deal)
A few names you might recognize from your screen—or your Spotify playlist:
-
Ruth Bader Ginsburg – Supreme Court Justice, feminist icon, dissenter-in-chief.
-
Elizabeth Glaser – Activist and founder of the Pediatric AIDS Foundation.
-
Tory Burch – Fashion designer and entrepreneur with a brand as bold as her philanthropy.
-
Joy Behar – Comedian, writer, and co-host of The View—never afraid to say what she’s thinking.
You don’t have to be trailblazing and wildly accomplished to join AEPhi. But if it happens? We’ll act surprised.
